VETASSESS Assessment Times Reduced
VETASSESS announced recently that the advertised time for general and professional skills assessments has been reduced to 10-15 weeks, down from the previous 12-20 weeks. This improvement is thanks to doubling the assessment team to meet the surge in applications following the end of border closures.
Reopening of Applications for Specific Occupations
Due to the reduction in assessment times for trades, VETASSESS reopening applications for three previously paused occupations. Starting Wednesday, June 12, they will accept new applications for:
- Chef (Commercial Cookery), ANZSCO Code 351311
- Chef (Asian Cookery), ANZSCO Code 351311
- Fitter (General), ANZSCO Code 323211
This applies to Pathway 1 and Pathway 2 applications under the OSAP and TSS programs. Applications for these occupations were suspended in September 2023 to prioritise processing current cases.
There is a discussions with Trades Recognition Australia to determine the reopening date for:
- Electrician (General), ANZSCO Code 341111
- Metal Machinist (First Class), ANZSCO Code 323214
Warning Against Misleading Social Media Advice
VETASSESS has observed several instances of former applicants and others using social media to provide inaccurate advice about technical interviews and assessment processes. This misinformation can mislead applicants, and Trades Recognition Australia and the Department of Home Affairs were alerted to such incorrect advice. Several individuals have been reported to the authorities, and they continue to monitor social media channels both domestically and internationally.
