Changes to Overseas Worker Sponsorship Program from 7 December 2024
Once again, the government is quietly rolling out a major change to the sponsorship of overseas workers program, with no prior warning or public notification. This seems to be becoming a regular trend for the current management of Australia — major shifts in immigration policies are now frequently being introduced with little to no public information.
Key changes are set to take effect on 7 December 2024, including adjustments to the Core Skills List (CSOL), the Skills in Demand (SID) list, and the introduction of the National Innovation Visa (NIV).
Recent Announcement from the Department:
As of 7 December 2024, the CSOL will apply to the Core Skills stream of the new Skills in Demand visa, which will replace the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa. The CSOL will also be relevant to the Direct Entry stream of the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.
Additional details regarding other reforms—including the new Skills in Demand visa and the National Innovation visa—will be announced in the near future.
