How to choose a startup team?

Me and my husband were always big fans of Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and other entrepreneurs that changed the world.

When we started our startup we realised that we need to choose our team with intelligence, because only people that are willing to travel this route with you with passion, will help you to achieve the ultimate dream. If you choose wrong team they will fail you and most importantly you will fail your dreams. “Those are the bozos that take you down” as Steve Jobs said.

In the beginning we hired people for their impressive resumes, they had the best education and on paper they looked just perfect. Soon, however, we realised that they are not passionate about our company. They did not want to work in a startup, they wanted to work for a big company with a big career plan. It was very heartbreaking for us to see that they are not passionate for Educli system, and that they did not believe that we will happen. When I heard their negative comments it made me to remember Steve Jobs when he said “Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice” .

When setting up your team, you need to ask them what they can bring to the company and if they are passionate to share their experience and knowledge to build something new. It was again Steve Jobs who once said,” It doesn’t make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do, we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do”. All The smartest leaders have the ability to hire people who are much smarter than they are, who will push them through diverse thinking and drive their business forward.

During this time when we are developing Educli, we are learning new things and everything that this entrepreneurs book said is starting to make sense to us. Sometimes we hit the jackpot by hiring staff and other times we lost tremendously, however along the way we learnt how to choose the right people to go with us. The biggest lesson for us is to find people who love their work and stay away from those who need to have a job.

Today, when we see Educli almost done, we feel very proud of us. We feel proud of our team who dreams with us and who believe that we can bring change to the world. We make this happen and one day, we and our team, will see great days coming because what we do will help people seeking to fulfil their dream of studying and living abroad. And this is what we believe!
